Aspiring Midwife

Obtaining observe births though assisting home birth midwives, birth photography, and birth doula work

Well... I was not sure I was going to make it through this week. It has been crazy busy and crazy rewarding all at the same time. My midwife preceptor was giving me a pep talk and telling me I could do it. She assured me that it would all be worth it. I think she was trying to make me laugh by telling me her story, as an aspiring midwife, as I was headed to my 4th birth in 36 hours. She told me of her trials and thoughts as she had done 5 births in 4 days as a midwifery apprentice. She said she also felt like she was going to die, but she learned valuable lessons though the process. Then... low and behold, it hit me today that I make it through 5 births in 5 days. Yep, I learned a lot and it was totally worth every sleepless night!
The first birth. Bozeman, Montana, was crazy fast! The second birth, in Bozeman, brought about much patience and learning to encourage when the  birth seemed impossible. I pulled from very source of energy I had in order to pass it onto her. The third birth, in  and  , showed me the necessity of a strong family unit, the power of giving, and the value of surrender. As I cried and cried out of my exhaustion, my village helped me as I drove 5 hours to birth #4 of 5 in Kalispell, Montana. This precious home birth showed me the inner strength of motherhood. It showed me trust and the need to banish fear from a birth space. The dedication to an empowering birth story, and the beauty of midwifery. Then came along home birth #5 in Kalispell, which was truly enlightening and brought me much energy. I had the honor or helping a little girl being born on mother's day. On this spectacular day I witnessed a baby and a mother being born. The utter relief on the mother's face and the trickling tear rolling down the face of her father, as they both brought her onto her mother's chest for her first cry.
I love my job. I am so grateful that I have women in my camp that are willing to teach me their unique midwifery skills. I am honored to be carrying the torch of a midwife. I will do my best to carry it with grace and passion.
I cannot thank the midwives enough for teaching me and the mothers for allowing me to learn from their beautiful births. I will be eternally grateful.
